Milestones: The Newborn Tab for the Good Days
A keepsake, not a checklist. 82 moments across the first two years, with no progress bar, no score, and nothing that can tell you your baby is behind.
The Newborn module has always been built for the hard part. Feeds, sleep, diapers, the 3am log you tap one-handed in the dark. Rhythm and Insights exist because the first months are a blur and you need something that remembers for you.
Milestones is the other thing. It is the one screen in there you open on a good day.
A keepsake, not a checklist
Every milestone tracker we looked at had the same problem: a progress bar. Two of six ticked, an empty bar, and a number telling you how far along you are.
Open that at 11pm, on the night you are already worried, and it does not tell you about your baby. It tells you your baby might be behind.
So Milestones does not have one. The headline is moments saved, a number that only ever goes up, and future age bands stay closed until you get there.
Eighty-two moments, and not all of them are the baby's
Milestones runs from the first few weeks through to 18 to 24 months, in eight age bands.
The list is deliberately not a developmental screener. Alongside first smile, rolling over and first steps, it holds:
- Coming home
- First visitor
- Falls asleep on your chest
- First trip out of the house
- You get through a night feed alone
That last one is not a baby milestone. It is yours, and the first weeks are full of them.
Which band is "around now"
The band highlighted as current is chosen by corrected age, not calendar age — the same basis your pediatrician uses. For a baby born early, calendar age is the wrong ruler, and a list that quietly implies otherwise is exactly the kind of thing this screen is built to avoid.
Two ways to read it
- Checklist groups by age band. This is the shape for deciding what to tick.
- Story runs chronologically across every band. This is the shape for reading back through what has already happened.
They were stacked at first, and the story pushed the checklist an entire screen down the moment it had anything in it. Now a pill switches between them.
One list, both parents
Milestones are stored against the baby, not against whoever ticked the box. Both parents read and write the same list.
That is the only correct answer. "She smiled on the 12th" is equally true for both of you, and a per-device list would have shown the second parent an empty scrapbook of their own child.
Ticks apply instantly and roll back if the save fails, because a tap at 3am has to land now, not after a spinner.
